I think that Dereks transformation is quite credible. I think that many of the prisoners see them self in another light and realize some very important things when they are in prison, they have a lot of time over to think. In prison Derek has to go through a lot. He befriends peoples who say they are Nazis, but from his point of wiew they are just lying to them selfs, his way of beeing a nazi is not the same way for them. He gets treated the same way he used to treat people, and he didn't like it. The guy who worked with Derek said some thinks that made him think too. But I think that the biggest reasond why Derek changed was because Sweeney came to him and supported him and offered help. He said if he stop meeting the peoples who had sat him to prison and became a normal civilized national he would help him ouf of prison alive. I think that Derek realized that Sweeney were right, if he wanted to live a good life whit true friends and the most important, his family, he had to stop what he was dooing and start over. I think that's enough because when it's about you family or just someone you care for, you can do almost everything to protect and make them feel good. I feel sympathy for him, he showed us that he willing to change. And if you listend to me, I say that you shouldn't judge peoples for who they where, but for who they are now.
I think Derek is going to be fine, but it won't be easy. But I think that he has made it this far that he don't want to return to the group, I don't even think he would be welcome. He knows that the family is important, and he won't let them go for the crap he was dealing with before. They are going to have a tough time ahead but the family will come closer, mourn together and move on.
It's obviosly no good, hatred begets only hatred. The consequences is that the new born learn stuff about the past, taking there parents views to the next generation and so on. They can't make their own opinion, I don't realize why the younger don't knows better and bring peace. But it's have to come from the booth sides then, they have to show that they want so there will be no embarrassing situations later.
I don't think it's congenital. And I dont belive that the hatred is there for no reasond, it has to grow. It depends on what kind of person you are and what you have done in your life. It's all about experiences and in what environment you grew up in. If you have a lot's of friends or you parents think something speciall about anything, you might amulate that. So you are not born to hate, it is growing from the time you hear your first discussion about something. But I think that you are able to change you thinking, just like Derek did. And there is nothing that says that we are starting to hate something just because we hear it, you can start to hate it when you are an old man and you can change back to not hate it just as fast as you started to hate it.
